Front Line Leaders Stuck at Home :: Mayors And Their Duties
The Mayoral Command
Hello everyone, as I am now into my second term as mayor of Tallahassee, I've decided a brief article on being a mayor is in order. I will go over a few points every mayor needs to know, and what you can do to help each other, and maybe i'll add a little bit of what it takes to become a mayor. On to the goods.
Taxes
Taxes in each area are controlled solely by the mayor of that region. This is why it is very important to elect a mayor you know and trust. Taxes are both very important, but also should not be over exaggerated. As a mayor you can control both the business Tax and the Housing Tax. Now at first glance you can already see how a bad or selfish mayor could ruin things for their area. They could hike the tax rate up astronomically high so that everyone would end up not being able to pay and lose their house, and their company could end up be destroyed. Luckily it takes a month for these taxes to be enacted and most citizens can simply move during this time.
For this reason it is important for every mayor to have some sort of a tax, mayors do not need to tax so much that they hope to buy a hospital off of the proceeds, but they still need to be there, for the following reasons. Every State (territory, etc) needs to have a treasury balance, it doesn't need to be very high, but by my estimates it should probably be around (City Population * 2.75) at a minimum. These excess funds are always helpful for when the population needs to buy gifts for their citizens or to place a reward for an event, etc get creative.
The second reason for keeping the taxes above zero is to weed out any inactive businesses or Citizens, I know this may sound a little harsh, but if someone has not signed on in 30 days, they are very unlikely to start playing and get angry their house/business is no longer around. However, the benefit of this is everyone gets more reliable information from their state.
So mayors be smart with your tax rates, they need to be existent, just don't bankrupt anyone.
Hospitals
We need a hospital!! well, frankly yeah every area needs a hospital, but as all mayors soon realize, getting a hospital is a big ordeal and costs lots of money. Luckily our federal government is great at getting very high quality (Q4) hospitals to those places who need them most. If you have a relatively low population maybe you could raise the money for a Q1. Simply hoping and spamming the media for a Q4 to drop into your lap, probably isn't going to happen, but don't give up on wanting one. Until a Mayor gets a Hospital they can start a local gifting program to make sure everyone is doing alright, if you have some war veterans in your area, give them a donation so they can afford a moving ticket to Austin to use the hospital there. Eventually we'll all have hospitals no worries happy.gif
Communication
The mayors need to keep in communication, not only with their citizens, but with the other mayors. As a mayor you have a very important role politically, nothing is more frustrating than a political leader who is inactive. On the eUSA Forums we have our own area for Discussion and to post idea, I urge all Mayors to visit the Forums A.S.A.P. get signed in and get your voice heard. In eUSA we have more territories than most countries in Erepublik, so it is imperative we work together. Stay active, and spur activity among your fellow citizens.
Also, Dish has started a contest for all the active mayors to decide who gets the next Q4 hospital in the US. This contest also will decide who becomes Speaker of the House. His article is Here

So do you feel your inactive, high taxing, hospital neglecting, mayor needs the boot? Do you feel your the best for the job? Well if you've been around enough to realize he's inactive you could run for mayor. Depending on how populated your city is, it could be a very tight race. So make sure you got your platform and your ideas straight.
-First of all, mayors are chosen the 20th of every month.
-You'll need to be in a political party, from their you need to petition to your Party President in a PM how you are the best candidate for the election, depending on your area he may already have a candidate and you might need to prove you are better.
-Once your on the ballot, let your people know your running, and what your ideas are, but please try not to post 2394230948 articles about the fact your running, again we have 40+ mayors running every month. thats a lot of articles to sort through.
-Trying PMing people in your area, its more personal anyway. Talk to people in the chat, and be active in the forums, a lot of our senior members love giving advice ; ]
-Election day comes, cross your fingers and pray.
-If you are elected, congratulations! you've just become mayor.
-Now that your mayor, read everything above and get to work ; ]
Well that is my basic Mayoral write up for the June-July term. If any other mayors find that i'm missing something that should be here, let me know and i'll gladly add it. Hope you all enjoy.
